Birthday Trinket Box (made from a Ribbon Spool)
-by Melissa Bove

Melissa has a made a fabulous project tutorial that encompasses recycling at it's best! Save those empty ribbon spools and re-purpose them as beautiful birthday gift boxes. She is also giving you a sneak peek at two of our new stamp sets that will be released on June 8th: Vintage Cupcake and Vintage Greetings.

What You'll Need:

  • Empty Ribbon Spool (The bigger the spool, the bigger the box)
  • Pink Persimmon Vintage Cupcake, Vintage Greetings and Small Banner Stamp Sets (Note: These stamps will be available in the Pink Persimmon store on June 8th!)
  • Patterned Paper I used DCWV, The Sweet Stack
  • Copic Markers or other coloring markers/pencils
  • Ribbon and Ric Rac
  • Prima Flowers
  • Mini Adhesive pearls, Kaiser Craft
  • Glitter
  • Hot Glue Gun

The Trinket box is an easy, fun and "green" way to make a small box to give to someone. It is made from an empty ribbon spool. We all have those right?? Add a coordinating card and you have a beautiful gift.

Step One: I first took one of the tops off of a ribbon spool

Step Two: Then I sanded down all the edges of the spool. Painted it white and added a piece of paper to the inside of it

Step Three: Now you adhere paper to the outside of the spool and the box lid.

Step Four: Stamp images onto white cardstock, color in, then trim out with sharp cutting knife.

Step Five: Embellish the top of box with the stamped images, flowers, ribbon and lots of glitter.

Use a hot glue gun to adhere everything. I took a piece of 20 gauge wire and hot glued it to the back of the stamped image and then hot glued the other end to the box top. It makes the stamped image stand up stronger. Then to "pretty up" the hot glue just sprinkle some glitter on it when warm.

Apply a ric rac edging to the box lid, embellish with a banner or other decorative edging. This creates an "edge" for your box lid and keeps the top from sliding.
