Candy Box Tutorial
-by Lisa Zappa
Lisa turned this tiffany blue candy box into a little 'billboard' with Pink Persimmon's Little Red Wagon stamp set, as originally seen in the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen gallery. She was inspired by the little hang boxes that pills come in at the pharmacy. The stamped image sits vertically behind the candy box, creating a little 'billboard'. Here's how she did it!
Supplies used:
Stamps: Little Red Wagon
Materials: Cardstock, Crepe Paper, Copic Markers (or colored pencils), Transparency Sheet, Glue and Ink
Box: Lisa's box is from Nashville Wraps, but you can modify to work with any size box.
Tools: Paper Trimmer (or craft knife)
Step One: Measure your candy box, and cut a piece of heavy cardstock the same width.
Step Two: Use your paper trimmer to cut a square hole in the box top, so your candy will be visible. (You can use a craft knife and straight edge ruler for this part too).
Step Three: Cut a transparency sheet the same size as the box top..
Step Four: Adhere your transparency to the inside of the box top..
Step Five: Stamp the wagon & 'Jane' image from Pink Persimmon's "Little Red Wagon" Set, then stamp schoolbooks inside the wagon. Since Pink Persimmon stamps are clear, you are able to see the placement of the books through your stamping block.
Step Six: Stamp the books onto typing paper or a post-it-note to create a 'mask'. Cut the typing paper book image out and lay it over the books in the wagon to protect them from ink when you stamp the dog image.
Step Seven: Stamp the dog image over the top of the books. Since we've protected the books with the mask, it will seem that the dog is sitting 'behind' the books.
Step Eight: Color in your images. Lisa also stamped the girl on patterned paper and cut out her dress to place over the stamped image (see finished sample above).
Step Nine: Take vintage (or new) crepe paper, and cut it in half length-wise
Step Ten: Create a ruffled edge by running a line of adhesive across the back edges of the image, and then crimp or pinch the edges into the adhesive to make a ruffle.
Step Eleven: Trim your ruffle so that the edges are even.
Step Twelve: Add coordinating patterned paper around the box edges, then add buttons and a sentiment to the front. (The circle is a Just Right round stamper)
Step Thirteen: Adhere your stamped image to the red cardstock, leaving a bottom edge the same height as your box.
Step Fourteen: Using red-line tape, run 2 tape lines across the back of the box. Adhere your 'billboard' to the back of the box.
Add candy & your gift box is done! |
